Day 65 - Doctors, Gastropods, & Cassatt
Wednesday, March 05, 2008
Co-op again today ...
In Art History, we studied Mary Cassatt and created an impressionistic piece using pastels on canvas. We dipped textured cotton fabric into milk, then drew on the fabric using chalk pastels. Next, we turned the (still wet) fabric upside-down onto cardboard and covered it with aluminum foil. Finally, we used an iron on wool setting until the fabric was dry. This helped seal the pastels onto the canvas and gave it a stiffer feel. The picture above was Rachael's "impression" of fireworks over the ocean at sunset.
In Marine Biology, they studied gastropods.
Afterwards, all the kids ate pizza and played in the gym while I snuck out and went to the Dr. (that wretched "yearly" appointment!) It sure was nice not having to make the kids sit in the waiting room, though! The day concluded with Rachael's piano lesson and a trip to the library where Rachael checked out a bunch of books about interior design - a new, budding interest of hers!
Rachael's VERY creative, Amy. This is another lovely work.
Last time I went to ob/gyn, I took several shots of the stirrups. But I couldn't bring myself to actually post them, lol. Like anyone wants to think about THAT!!!
