Day 224 - The 1st 'Official' Day of School
Wednesday, August 13, 2008

I can't really call this the first day of school because we really never stopped "doing school" throughout the summer, however, our schedule was much lighter than it is now. This was Rachael's 1st official day of Middle School and Nick's 1st official day of Kindergarten. Let's just say that Nick was a far more eager student! Rachael quickly learned how much she will have to "buckle down" now that she is a Middle-Schooler. We began Apologia's General Science & VideoText Algebra. So far (after 1 day!), everything went well, although it took much longer than expected. (I think a lot of it was sheer laziness...)

Nick worked on Reading, Writing, & Math concepts. His reading ability and comprehension just keeps improving by leaps and bounds. His writing and math concepts? Well, not so much... I'm not worried, though. He thrives on workbook pages, and cuddling up in the big recliner for reading. He just turned 4 a few months ago, so whatever he understands and remembers will just make next year all the easier.

Rachael also performed her 1st solo science lab (on density) - complete with lab report. I can't believe that I didn't take a picture! The only pictures I have from today are the ones that Rachael took of Nick. She was trying to make it look like his head was attached to an animal's body. Hmmm, I wonder why school took so long today????
