Day 340 - Tivo
Monday, December 22, 2008
We have decided we can't live without our DVR, but when we checked Comcast's rates vs. what we had been paying for Insight, we were shocked! It was going to be at least $30 more per month for the same cable/broadband package. After doing a little research, we decided to buy a Tivo and revert to expanded basic cable (instead of digital). Tivo had a $79 special on refurb. units. We never recorded anything on HD anyway because it used too much space. The verdict? We are THRILLED! I do miss a few channels (like Hallmark), but the Tivo features more than make up for it. We can now select from over 30,000 movies to rent or buy from Amazon and have them piped directly to our Tivo. I can also search by actor - very useful for me, since I'm so bad at remembering names of movies/shows! We can also view slideshows of our pictures or listen to music that is on our computer. Jeff loves Youtube, and now he can watch videos to his heart's content on our big screen vs. our tiny computer monitor. There are other benefits, too, but my favorite... a smaller portion of my money going to the Comcast monopoly!
