Our homeschool co-op had a group ice-skating event today. We ended up having around 25 kids - enough to make it fun, but not too many so that it was crowded. Nick, of course, didn't skate, but there were plenty of other younger kids there, so they enjoyed playing in the lobby area...
This evening, we told the kids that we were going to pick up some books that I had gotten off of Freecycle. We actually went to a breeder and picked up our new 6 week old Boston Terrier puppy. The breeder is a fellow homeschool mom who is getting out of the business and giving away the parents and puppies. 'Fred' was the runt of the litter, and the last puppy left. We are definitely going to change his name, but haven't agreed on anything yet. Nick chose the name 'Alex', which may end up sticking. We've got some time before filling out the registration paperwork.
The kids are beside themselves with joy, but I think Jeff may be the most giddy. He says he's just thrilled to see the kids so happy, but I have my suspicions...
Now that we're living back up here, we can join in on 'Card Night' at the Parrish's. As you can see in the first picture, Shawn isn't exactly a graceful loser! I won 2 of the 3 games and Robert won 1. Of course, based on the last picture, I'm not sure that Robert's win was legitimate...
We're the only family in our co-op that is not involved in basketball this year. Nick is too young and Rachael has no desire. (Not a bad thing since she inherited my [lack of] grace!) We do, however, go to some of the games to cheer on our friends.
Rachael opened Nick's bedroom window and built a snowman on the roof below. She was able to convince Nick that Frosty the Snowman flew up there to say, "Hi!" ;-D
Nick has been sick since Sunday evening, which meant we couldn't go to the Homeschool Bowling Day on Tuesday. Fortunately, Rachael was able to go with friends. I asked her how she did, and she responded, "I don't know, but I had fun!" I guess that's all that matters!
When we were at Shriner's Hospital, Nick received a Beanie Baby eagle. Somewhere in the shuffle between rooms, he lost it. He was traumatized for the entire trip home. That night, I had a 'Mom's Night Out' with fellow homeschool co-op moms. After dinner at O'Charley's, I went to Cracker Barrel in search of a new eagle. I found 'Reed', and all is well!
Rachael does a lot of the cooking around here (her choice!) She's actually an amazing cook - much better than myself. She recently decided to create a new recipe. She stuffed manicotti noodles with ham and cream cheese, poured a marinara sauce over them, covered them with cheese and baked them. It was interesting, but unfortunately, in a bad way. This is the first of her creations that turned out less than stellar. Oh well, a lesson learned!
On January 5th, we returned to the Shriner's Hospital in Lexington to pick up Nick's braces. He chose a space theme this time. They're actually kind of cool looking. (at least they're better than his pink and pastel yellow SpongeBob braces that he got the last time!) He had a hard time getting used to these, but he's adjusted now.
Okay, I figure I made it through 2008 with (mostly) keeping up on my P365 Blog. Since we're trying to get caught up on school (the move put us behind), we just got a new puppy (post to follow), I'm getting ready to resume my position as webmaster for our church, and we're just so darn busy socializing, I'm changing my blog format. It will no longer be a P365 blog. I'm going to make it a priority to keep posting, but at least I won't have the pressure of trying to find a daily photo!
This afternoon, Diana, Darla, & I took the kids to see 'Bedtime Stories' with Adam Sandler. It was even better than I thought it would be!
Diana, Andy, & the kids came over for New Year's Eve night. Between the two families, we had TONS of food and lots of fun! We broke out the Wii and played for hours. Hopefully no one was close enough to hear all of the shouting and cheering. "Kill her! Punch him! Shoot it!" Although, I must say that Rock Band is still my favorite!
Andy & Diana left around 1:00-1:30am and the kids spent the night. I went to bed around 3:00 and they were still up (even Nick!)
Well, all in all, this has been an awesome year! We're happy, healthy, and surrounded by people who love us. Who could ask for anything more?
Today we went roller skating with our homeschool co-op. We were so happy to see Claudia there. Since returning to public school, we don't get to see her very often.
Nick didn't skate, of course, but luckily, there were enough of the younger co-op kids there that he didn't miss out. He had fun playing on all of the arcade games and munching at the snack bar. He was also able to get out and do the "Cha-Cha Slide" in his sock feet right before the rink closed. He thought that was the coolest!
Rachael fell and twisted/sprained her wrist, so she's decided NOT to go skating at her upcoming birthday party!
We went over to Darla's house this afternoon to discuss the elementary Sunday School curriculum. Since our church has changed recently to include a more family-integrated format, Diana, Darla, & I have begun writing the curriculum for the elementary students. After the meeting, Diana & I took the kids to McDonalds to play.
The first picture is Nick wearing Thomas' hat and being goofy. Rachael thought it made him look like one of the seven dwarfs...
