Last Cake Class
Wednesday, February 25, 2009
This evening marked our last cake decorating class for this session. There are 3 more sessions we can take, but that will have to wait until school is out. As much as we enjoyed it, it was entirely too time consuming considering our busy schedules. Maybe during the summer... (although, with the move, we'll be finishing up a lot of schoolwork this summer!) Darla & I are sick of making cakes!
Unfortunately, I didn't get a close-up of Rachael's cake before I dropped it. (oops!) I'm going to e-mail the instructor and see if she can e-mail me a copy of the one she took. The one with the pinkish roses is mine. After the class, I took the girls (Gracie & Rachael) out for a celebratory dinner at the Olive Garden. Rachael is spending the night at Gracie's, and then they're heading up to the Children's Museum again tomorrow. We didn't get to see a lot of the exhibits last time. Diana & the boys (Thomas & Ross) are coming over tomorrow afternoon to work on Sunday School curriculum. Nick will have fun having the boys all to himself!
While Heather and Nathan were in Indianapolis for a medical procedure, Sophia & Mary spent a few days with us. On Friday, we took Thomas, & Ross with us to the Children's museum. Nick had never been through the museum and Rachael hadn't been since Nick was in the NICU at Riley. We made the mistake of going on a Friday which was also field trip day for every public school in Indiana (or so it seemed!) We only went to a few exhibits, but the kids had fun anyway.
After the Valentine's Day party, the older kids began their first Art Fundamentals class. If you recall, last year we held Art History classes where we studied Renaissance and Impressionist artists and completed projects based on their lives, art, or techniques. This year, Mrs. Sanders - a local artist & homeschool grandma, returned to teach the fundamentals of art. The first class began with color mixing techniques, filling in a color wheel, and discussing color (ie: primary, complimentary, hues, etc.) While the older children were downstairs learning, the younger kids continued partying in the Family Life Center.
On Wednesday, we had our co-op Valentine's Day party. It's always fun to see the kids' boxes that they made. We ate some pizza, played some games, and exchanged cards & candy.
Rachael, Gracie, & I are taking a Wilton's cake decorating class. Unfortunately, I didn't have my camera available to take pictures of the finished product, but here is Gracie & Darla getting the cake iced and ready for class.
Diana, Darla, & I took the kids to Indianapolis for lunch at the Old Spaghetti Factory, followed by a walk around downtown and a tour of the state capitol. The architecture was beautiful and we were even able to sit in on the House of Representatives in session. We also ran into Diana's uncle, a former state senator and current lobbyist!
We do birthdays big at our house, but we do parties in lieu of gifts. After the pool party, we went to the local pizza place for a pizza party. With my mom, step-sister, and most of our co-op friends, we pretty much filled the back half of the restaurant. (it's such a shame that we homeschoolers are so unsocialized!) By that evening, we were all exhausted.
