Happy 66th Birthday!
Tuesday, April 14, 2009

We went to Stoll's Amish Buffet for an early dinner, followed by cake and ice cream back at the house. We managed to snap a 4-generation photo in the process!

Day 331 - Another Long Drive
Saturday, November 29, 2008

I left home this morning, dropped Nick off at my mom's house, Rachael off at Jeff's mom's house, and drove to the St. Louis area to pick up my grandma for Thanksgiving. I made pretty good time, despite driving (relatively) slow. There were a lot of police officers patrolling the highway, so I tried to stay (relatively) close to the speed limit (for me anyway!) We all met up at an Amish buffet for a pre-Thanksgiving meal.

On a separate note, it's starting to feel like Christmas! The lights are up and the weather is brisk...

Day 266 - Birthday Pictures and Science Woes
Tuesday, September 23, 2008

Here are the pictures that my aunt sent me from my grandma's birthday.

We started off our school day with a science test which Rachael completely bombed. It wasn't that it was difficult (it was matching scientists with their achievements), she just didn't study. As a result, she is writing a paragraph about each of the 10 scientists that she missed, then retaking the test. As much as she HATES writing, I don't think she'll be goofing off during her study time anymore! Sometimes it's kind of fun getting to be a mean mom... ;-D

Day 265 - Happy 84th Birthday Grandma!
Monday, September 22, 2008

Today is my grandma's 84th birthday. Since it's also the end of the fiscal year and Jeff had to take off on Friday, he ended up working today. My mom and I took the kids to St. Louis to see my grandma and my aunt (who is still visiting from Hawaii). We ate at a Chinese buffet and got a DQ ice cream cake. We played some cards, had a visitor, stopped by Eckert's Farm Store and then drove back to Indiana.

I forgot my camera again, so I'm posting some outdoor/evening pictures that Jeff took of the museum. My aunt is supposed to send me some pictures of Grandma's birthday, so I'll post them when I receive them...

On an even brighter note, I was able to pawn my package of frozen beef stroganoff off on my mom - even after she read my blog. Either she's really brave or she's planning on being really cruel to my stepdad...

Day 235 - 4 Generations
Tuesday, August 26, 2008

After a huge breakfast (including some of the fish that they caught in the lake!), Grandma, Norma, Fred, Sammie, & Gabe left for St. Louis this morning. Mom and I played cards until Jeff arrived from work. We were planning on taking the kids to the movies, but decided instead to just grab a bite to eat, then head home to watch Monk...

cMoe Revisited...
Thursday, August 21, 2008

Even Uncle Fred's bald spot was no match for Mom & Aunt Norma (who were armed with face paint!)

Day 234 - The cMoe

The cMoe was on the agenda for today. I knew the kids would enjoy it, but I think some of the adults had just as much fun! I'll have to post more pictures in another post, because I took so many. Even 83 year old Grandma Re got in on the action!

Day 233 - Another Day at the Zoo
Wednesday, August 20, 2008

The kids and I spent the night at my mom's house last night. My grandma is visiting from St. Louis, and my aunt & uncle are visiting from Hawaii. They brought my cousin's two kids, Gabe (3) and Samantha (11). Despite the suffocating heat, we decided to go to the zoo. It wasn't as bad as I thought it would be, but it was still pretty hot and muggy! The kids have had fun playing together. It actually works out perfectly that Rachael & Samantha are only about 6 mos. apart, and Nick & Gabe are only about 4 mos. apart. After the zoo, we headed to Hardee's for a late lunch. I imagine that we'll be having a small dinner followed by a night of card-playing...

Day 82 - Grandma & Flooding
Monday, March 24, 2008

Jeff and I left Rachael at his parents' house to color Easter eggs, and left Nick at my mom's house while we drove to St. Louis to pick up my grandma. Wow, I couldn't believe how high the water was! It looked like we were driving through a lake, and we were on the Interstate! We had a nice drive, though. I LOVED having 3 hours alone with Jeff. We were able to drive and talk with no interruptions. It was great! When we got to my grandma's house, she took us to the fire station where we picked up some sandwiches to eat for supper. My grandma never ceases to amaze me ... she'll be 84 this year and is in better physical shape than I am! She just finished a two mile walk yesterday for her church, and still has a spring in her step! She didn't get her driver's license until she was 70 years old, and she still walks nearly everywhere. She also cleans & decorates the church, keeps up her garden & her jungle of houseplants, and hand sews several quilts per year. I hope I'm able to be that active when I'm that age ... heck, I just hope I'm still ALIVE At that age! ;-D
