Birthday Celebration #3
Monday, June 29, 2009

On Saturday the 20th, we headed down south and had the 'grandparent party.' The kids had so much fun riding the rides and playing the games! My parents got Nick a Wii Fit, my grandma got him a drill/screwdriver playset, and Jeff's parents gave him some money. I'll post some game pictures in the next posting...

Ronnie's Birthday
Monday, June 08, 2009

I'm finally getting around to downloading the pictures I had stored on my camera. These were taken at my father-in-law's 68th birthday. Happy Birthday, Ronnie!

Polyphemus Moth
Sunday, April 26, 2009

Ronnie (Jeff's dad) found his outdoor cat playing with this injured moth. It was HUGE! (Unfortunately, these pictures don't accurately reflect its size.) Since he was coming up today for a visit, he thought Rachael would enjoy seeing it and trying to identify it. She took these pictures and started researching. From the information she retrieved, our best guess is that it's a Polyphemus moth.

(Polyphemus Moth - Antheraea polyphemus Order: Lepidoptera / Superfamily: Bombycoidea / Family: Saturniidae - Giant silkmoths / Subfamily: Saturniinae / Tribe: Saturniini)

Day 360 - Merry Christmas!
Monday, December 29, 2008

Today began with the obligatory unwrapping of the Santa gifts followed by the two hour trek to Jeff's parents' house for a massive turkey feast and more presents. While there, even Jeff's dad had fun Wii bowling. After we left, we went to my parents house for another huge meal and still more presents. Rachael (dressed in her finest footie pajamas - a gift from Jeff's parents) thoroughly whipped Eddie 4 times in Wii bowling. Of course, he claimed he could still beat her at Skittles, which is apparently a European sport. He says he's going to have to buy a Wii and get practiced up for a rematch. She's still trying to sharpen her skills so that it never happens. Is that a competitive spirit that I see in my child? I didn't think she had it in her!

Day 307 - Lazy Day
Monday, November 03, 2008

Rachael went over to Jeff's parent's house this morning to help dust & vacuum. Jeff's brother, girlfriend, & two of her children are coming to visit on Tuesday and will be staying there. After such a busy weekend, Jeff & I decided to be lazy today. We sat around all day and caught up on some tv shows that we had recorded and hadn't yet watched. Since I didn't take any pictures (again!), I'm posting a couple from when Nick was a baby. It's funny to see how chunky he looks! He was such a tiny preemie that after he came home from the NICU, I think he decided to make up for all of his missed meals!

Day 244 - Gatti's
Tuesday, September 02, 2008

Since my in-laws are on our cell phone plan, we needed to go with them for my mother-in-law to exchange her new phone. She didn't like it because it was black, so she exchanged it for a shiny, new, metallic, hot pink phone (yes, it's actually pink!) After we left the store, we went to the newly opened Mr. Gatti's restaurant. The buffet was great, the service was excellent, the games were cool, but it was WAY too expensive! The food is reasonable, but many of the games are $1.00 - $5.00 each! The kids loved it, of course. I'm glad we went, and we'll probably go back, but we definitely won't make it a habit. On a side note, they have All-You-Can-Drink Frozen Cokes on their buffet...that in itself is worth every penny of the buffet price! YUM! ;-D

Day 237 - Chuck E. Cheese...AGAIN!
Wednesday, August 27, 2008

My mother-in-law called this morning before church and asked if we wanted to go out to eat this evening. We agreed, and then she told us that she wanted to take the kids to Chuck E. Cheese...the very place that we went to yesterday for Sophia's party! Oh well, the kids had a fun time - you can never get enough Chuck E! Nick had a breakdown after watching Uncle Brian (Jeff's brother) on an old video. He started crying and saying that he missed him...the strange thing is that he's only seen him a few times! Brian has been in Hawaii, Alaska, & Iraq since Nick was born. I guess the few times that he's been around must have really made an impression!

Day 220 - Goodbye Bob
Tuesday, August 12, 2008

Today we travelled to the St. Louis area for a funeral. Bob was actually Jeff's relation, but I've known him all of my life. He lived next door to my Grandparents and Dad. As a kid, I played with his kids, and his daughter was one of my bridesmaids. Bob had been fighting pancreatic cancer for quite some time, but let go on Monday morning with his wife and children at his side...

Day 172 - Birthday continued and Travel day to St. Louis
Monday, June 23, 2008

I didn't take any pictures today. As soon as we got up this morning, we packed up and headed to St. Louis for Jeff's family reunion. The pictures above are from Nick's birthday yesterday.

Day 124 - Happy Birthday, Ronnie!
Sunday, May 04, 2008

Wednesday was actually my father-in-law's birthday, but we decided to celebrate today since we were out of town (at co-op) on Wednesday. He is every woman's "Dream Father-in-Law!" He's an amazing role model of patience, love, and wisdom. He always goes out of his way to help anyone in need - especially his family! Happy Birthday, Ronnie!

Oh, and here's a picture of my sweet, mature, lady-like daughter!

Day 105 - Happy Birthday Nana!
Tuesday, April 15, 2008

Today my mother-in-law, Barb, turned 61. We all went to Long John Silver's then back to her house for cake & ice cream. Much to my in-laws dismay, I broke out the camera to get a few photos. I snapped one of Jeff's parents together. This December, they will be celebrating their 44th wedding anniversary. Happy Birthday Barb!

Day 24 - Happy 11th Birthday Rachael!!!
Friday, January 25, 2008

Today is Rachael's 11th Birthday. We took the day off from schoolwork (something we do every year ... yet another homeschool perk!) and Rachael made her own birthday cake (she insisted!) Jeff's parents went to Rachael's Taekwon-do with us, then we went to Pizza Hut with his dad for dinner followed by cake at his mom & dad's house.

Jeff's parents gave her $50 cash, but his dad gave her a separate card with another $50 cash in it for her to spend on our upcoming vacation. He also gave Nick $20. Lucky kids!
