Day 244 - Gatti's

Since my in-laws are on our cell phone plan, we needed to go with them for my mother-in-law to exchange her new phone. She didn't like it because it was black, so she exchanged it for a shiny, new, metallic, hot pink phone (yes, it's actually pink!) After we left the store, we went to the newly opened Mr. Gatti's restaurant. The buffet was great, the service was excellent, the games were cool, but it was WAY too expensive! The food is reasonable, but many of the games are $1.00 - $5.00 each! The kids loved it, of course. I'm glad we went, and we'll probably go back, but we definitely won't make it a habit. On a side note, they have All-You-Can-Drink Frozen Cokes on their buffet...that in itself is worth every penny of the buffet price! YUM! ;-D
Today we headed to the zoo with friends Heather, Sophia, & Mary. We hadn't been to this particular zoo in years. They've really done wonders to improve their facilities. It was hotter than we had anticipated, but we still had a good time. The giraffe and otters were the highlights of our trip. After the zoo, we had dinner at a local Mexican-American restaurant. There were no clowns this time (http://summerz1.blogspot.com/2008/06/day-180-pandas-clowns.html), but the food was just as delicious! I'll post some animal pictures tomorrow...
I dropped the kids off at my mom's house this morning to head to a used curriculum sale. I was able to go to a couple of garage sales (one of which was falsely advertised as having lots of homeschool materials... ) and a thrift store before hitting the Steak 'n Shake drive through. As luck would have it, the lady forgot to give me my Sweet 'n Low for my tea, so I had to go into the restaurant. As I was walking back to my car, some crazy person was honking and waving my way. It was my friend Heather and her husband (Nathan)! Nathan's medical test had taken less time than anticipated. I took my bag and drink back into Steak 'n Shake and ate lunch with them. Afterwards, we went to the curriculum sale where we both got A LOT of great deals (see my bargains in the picture above!)
Since my mom had taken the kids to the movies, I decided to hang out until Jeff got there. I went to Wal-Mart and a used bookstore, taking my time in each place. Wow! I had forgotten how relaxing it could be just to browse at my own snail's pace! When Jeff finished his trek from work (a 2 hour drive to E'ville), we ate at our favorite Indian restaurant, then hit the movies. What an awesome day!!!
Since gas prices are so high and we'll be leaving in a couple of weeks for St. Louis (to the Summers Family Reunion), we decided to "go local" for our anniversary. I found a good rate on a hotel in Evansville, so we dropped the kids off with my mom for the weekend. The first order of business was to head to the hospital where my mother-in-law was having a stress test done. Not exactly romantic, but after an abnormal EKG, we were both worried about her. After that was finished, my in-laws took us out to our favorite Chinese restaurant, Yen Ching's. After a movie and a brief shopping trip, we went to our hotel and ... relaxed!
