Day 330 - Bloomington & Pictures

We ventured to Bloomington today to sign our lease. After which, we went out to breakfast with Darla, Gracie, & Josh. Once we got home, I took our (possessed) van up to the dealership to be serviced. For some reason, the lights (both interior & exterior) flash for no apparent reason - even when the key is not in the switch!
For dinner, we met my sister at a local Mexican restaurant. We then went to see the movie "Bolt" where we met up with Heather & Mary. The movie was actually better than I had expected.
These photos are from the Christmas display downtown. I took the pictures hoping for a Christmas card photo, but wasn't thrilled with the outcome...
Our morning began with hopping into the car to drive to church, only to discover that our battery was dead. Apparently, Nick's seat belt got caught in the door which caused the interior light to drain the battery. We called Progressive's Roadside Assistance line and were told that there was no one on their list who had the equipment to help us. Um... equipment?!? Heck, even WE have jumper cables! I should have just told them to send a truck and we'd jump it ourselves...unless the motorized vehicle WAS the missing equipment. I know I'm not the most observant person in the world, but I don't recall too many horse-drawn carriage towing companies in the area. Anyway, after about 3 more phone calls from Progressive, they found a company - over 40 miles away! At least the elderly gentleman that showed up was prompt, professional, and polite.
Our evening was exponentially better. We went to dinner with my parents & step-sister to Jillian's. None of us had been there before, but it was a neat place. It's sort of like an adult's Chuck E. Cheese. They have games (and even a bowling alley!) for families until 9:00pm, and then it turns into an over 21 establishment. The games were entertaining, albeit expensive, and the food was wonderful. I had the grilled chicken which was yummy, and the caramel cheesecake which was double-yummy!
After dinner, Jeff, Nick & I went to the Riverfront. It was a gorgeous night (which also meant that it was exceedingly crowded). I did manage, however, to snap a few pictures of Nick at sunset...
Nick and I have been enjoying our day together, but we're still both missing Rachael!
Here are some of the pictures we took yesterday of the West Baden Springs Hotel. The floors really amazed me. They were able to restore nearly all of the original mosaic. The fireplace was pretty cool, too. It's hard to get a sense (through the pictures) at how large the dome truly is. To top it all off, there was a trio playing Ella Fitzgerald-type music. It was so relaxing... (as you can tell by Jill's photo!)
My mom arrived around 10:00, then we went to go pick up my step-sister. We headed to French Lick, IN to the French Licks Springs Hotel for lunch at the Grand Colonnade Buffet. The food was delicious, and the selections were amazing. Since we had some time to kill, we ventured over to the West Baden Springs Hotel to see the renovated dome. It was beautiful! The ambiance was so peaceful, the grounds were gorgeous, the music was inspiring. I have several photos that I'll have to post tomorrow. Rachael also bought another Field Guide to Birds. It was 50% off and was a good bargain.
We arrived at camp just before 4:00pm. Rachael doesn't know a single person at camp, but we found out that the dorm chaperone (a college student who was about 20-21) is also a lifelong homeschooler. She was homeschooled from K-12, and has made the Dean's list every semester at college. She expects to graduate from I.U. Southeast in the spring. That was at least a little comforting!
We went to my mom's house today for lunch. We hadn't been there for several weeks, and Eddie (Jill's boyfriend) was heading back to Canada. After eating, Jeff took the kids out shopping and goofing off while my mom and I played cards. It's been so long that we had a lot of catching up to do!
Day 172 - Birthday continued and Travel day to St. Louis

I didn't take any pictures today. As soon as we got up this morning, we packed up and headed to St. Louis for Jeff's family reunion. The pictures above are from Nick's birthday yesterday.
Today, my sister and I took the kids to see the Vincennes Rendezvous (a Revolutionary War re-enactment & "camp"). The weather was pretty nice and the food was good. I'm such a history buff, so of course, I loved it! Rachael enjoyed all of the "souvenir" booths. She came home with some hand-made soaps and old fashioned candy (sassafras & horehound). Nick liked all of the animals, music, & costumes. I've got a bunch more pictures to post, so I think I'll have to post them on future days...
Yesterday was my Mom's 62nd birthday. Since my sister was out of town yesterday, we decided to celebrate it today. Rachael made the cake all by herself. I thought she did a great job! Jill bought KFC (Mom's choice) and I made garlic dill mashed potatoes & gravy, green beans, cheesy bread, and sliced strawberries.
Day 109 - EARTHQUAKE!!!!! I turn 34 and the whole world collapses!

Jeff said, "You turn 34 and the whole world collapses!" We were awakened this morning at around 4:30am by an earthquake. Apparently, it was only a 5.2 (early reports suggested it was a 5.4), but the epicenter was less than 20 miles from our house. Fortunately, our house wasn't damaged except for a couple of cracks in the plaster. My sister's house, however, had more damage. There were several aftershocks, the strongest being a 4.6 around 10:15am. Even after living in CA, we never had a jolt like that!
After attending church with Jeff's dad, we went to his parents' house for lunch. Rachael hid eggs for Nick to find and Jeff hid eggs for her to find. We don't really play up the Easter Bunny, but we do get the kids baskets, and do an egg hunt as tradition. After the hunt, we went to my mom's house for another egg hunt and dinner. My sister, Jill, and her boyfriend, Eddie, were there. Eddie is from Northern Ireland and is in the British army stationed in Canada. The kids always love it when they are there. Eddie played defense to make sure that Rachael left some eggs for Nick to find! After dinner, Jill, my mom, grandma, and I all played a few games of cards. That's one thing I wish I could get Jeff interested in. I LOVE card games, but he's not much of a game player ...
p.s. Decapitating Grandma's lamb cake is a sick and twisted yearly tradition! This was Rachael's first time. She was so excited! :-D
Today we went ice-skating with the local homeschooling group. We took my childless sister who was none too fond of the huge crowd of kids! Then we went to my mom's house for dinner and MORE cake and ice cream!
