Day 186 - Goodbye Jesse. Happy Birthday America.
Saturday, July 05, 2008

Today is the 4th of July. This day marks the birth of our great nation, and the death of many. This morning, I was saddened by the passing of Senator Jesse Helms of North Carolina. Although I didn't agree with all of his positions, his service to our country and his unwavering support of democracy, the constitution, and the pro-life movement was unquestionable. This also happens to be the same day that my dad died 21 years ago. It sure doesn't seem that long!

On a lighter note, we went out to eat with Jeff's parents, then went to the fairgrounds to watch the fireworks. It was rather misty, but it didn't really rain. The fireworks were excellent!
